Distance
Education Home Page
Welcome to
D'Youville College and our Distance Learning site.
Our goal is to offer distance education format to
academically sound courses and to use the internet
to bring our academic resources to where our
students live. In addition, we offer online
assistance to students in conventionally delivered
courses.
The Department
of Instructional Support Services (BFAC-006)
encompasses Academic Computing, Distance Education,
and Instructional Media and is responsible for the
in-service needs of students, faculty and
staff.
Academic
Computing (BFAC-008) operates Windows and
Macintosh computer labs on campus.
Distance
Education (BFAC -004) gives D'Youville students
and faculty a virtual environment for courses.
Blackboard is used as management software to
support placement of course materials on the web.
Blackboard also supports private discussion boards
and chat rooms. DDL, Moodle, X-CHAT, and PROJECT
(blog) are also used in Distance
Education.
Instructional
Media (BFAC-009) provides audiovisual
equipment--TV monitors with VCRs, camcorders, LCD
projectors and laptops--for classroom presentations
and projects by faculty and students.
Our main Distance Education application is
Blackboard. Accounts on Blackboard are issued to
students and faculty who need access to a
Blackboard course site. Faculty may obtain an
account by contacting 716-829-8147 or 716-829-8133.
Student accounts are created from an information
sheet filled out by the student at registration.
Student accounts can also be obtained by visiting
BFAC-004 or calling 829-8133. Additional
information on distance education and Blackboard
can be found under INFORMATION on this page.
Students
who are taking CSC110 and those in Project II may
apply for web space. Please contact 716-829-8147 or
716-829-8133. Our newest addition to our Distance
Education family is our blog server called,
PROJECT. Those students who need web site accounts
may elect to have a blog site.
Students
in certain courses may be required to chat. Out
X-Chat facility is available for that purpose.
Please contact 716-829-8133 for information on
X-Chat. Our link to X-Chat directions is under
SERVICES on this page.
Also,
our new Moodle server is located at:
http://moodle.dyc.edu.
Moodle, an open source course management system
somewhat like Blackboard, is being beta tested this
year. Faculty and select students are eligible for
Moodle accounts.
